Liverpool defeated third division side Carlisle United 3-2 on penalties after the match was tied 1-1 at the end of extra time in the third round of the Capital One Cup on Thursday. Danny Ings put Liverpool ahead with a header before Derek Asamoah equalized . the match remained level after extra time following which Liverpool won in penality shootout

La Liga : Athletic Bilbao 1-2 Real Madrid

Real Madrid won 2-1 against Athletic Bilbao on Thursday to gain the top spot in the La Liga table. Madrid got an early lead when Karim Benzema capitalized on lost possession inside the penalty box (19') before Sabin Merino pulled the game back for bilbao (68') . Benzema Nipped one past the goalkeeper (70') to win the game for Madrid

Man Utd beat Ipswich Town 3-0

Manchester United recorded a Comfortable 3-0 victory over Ipswich Town in third round of Capital One Cup on Thursday . Wayne Rooney put United ahead with the first goal in five years in the tournament . Andreas Pereira doubled United's lead with a free-kick before Anthony Martial rounded off the victory with his fourth United goal in as many appearances.

Chelsea win 4-1 at walsall 

Defending champions Chelsea defeated second division side Walsall 4-1 in the third round of the Capital One Cup on Thursday .Ramires put Chelsea ahead with the header from a Robert Kenedy cross before turning provider for Loic Remy . James O'Connor pulled one back for Walsall just before halftime.Kenedy's calm finish followed by Pedro's left-footed shot completed a comfortable victory.

Tottenham 1-2 Arsenal 

Arsenal defeated Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 in the third round of Capital One Cup on Thrusday . Mathieu Flamini fired a rebound to roof of the net off an Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain shot to give Arsenal the lead (26'). Calum Chambers' own goal leveled the game (56') , but Flamino sent a volley into the corner (78') to win the North - London derby
